1.10.99 dear john, spent last night in our flapping green and white striped punch and judy studio tent under the star light up on the hill with the gas light burning and me plugged into the singing wire starting to make some headway. at last. have only been able to play these last 2 days as we've been hampered by all kinds of techno. probs not to mention the whole business of finding the place for camping and putting up the wires, fresh water, and somewhere to recharge batteries, [ which is why i'm now in the shearing shed at nearby Wogarno station run by David and LJ, who we gave one fine kind of green thai curry with basmati rice and champagne out on the big red rock to the night before, and they brought fresh crayfish and a dutch friend, and for afters we watched peach video moments on the lappy by the firelight so all is not struggle truth be told ] and then of course getting good levels and balancing cables and impedance and running things off car batteries and the blessed weather.fiddle fiddle, things seem to take 3x times as long as you might expect. just when the wind's dropped, the new invertor has come from perth care of a rare LJ visitor, the pickups are still intact from last night's barrage, you're plugged in ready to process out some astonishing kind of electronic madness from it all, the wire is silent. completeley silent. mind you i dropped the invertor into it as if it was no issue at all. *** when it did eventually arrive, (the 1st one dying on us completely, & i need one to use my desk which is essential EQ and level wise for the wires and so), great. plug in lets rock. but now there was some weird kind of radio transmitted earthing problem through the wires. god. fixed in the end by lining up the battery & invertor under the wire (sheltered from sun by a slab of rock), and earthing the wire to a studio tent peg which had to be watered every 2 hours. here its now 35C, how is it with you? splinker, ps. the outback is arwesome. dead old and seemingly full of magic. no paths, i can walk anywhere, and do, further and further into the limitless space each morning, and the boomas hop by and the crickets fly up in the patches of grass there still are and the crystals lie in the red sand and glint at you, and the emus lurch past like dinosaurs, and the place is soft and old and full of stories. and very friendly considering i sleep in a swag under a mulga tree on a ledge, and alan is fine and we are having a time. talking too there is much.
